How to Get Sniffer in Minecraft 1.20

The Sniffer, a gentle giant, emerged as the winner of the 2022 Mib vote. It roams around your base, sniffing out lost seeds of flowers that once existed in the lands of Minecraft, but are now extinct.

This quirky creature has been in development for some time, but has only recently made its way into the game. So, what can it do? Well, to put it simply, it sniffs.

It can sniff out seeds, and even lay eggs! But don't let its limited abilities fool you, this creature is still a valuable addition to your Minecraft team.

Now, the real question is: how do you get your hands on one?

What is the Sniffer

The sniffer is not just any ordinary mob. It's an ancient creature that was once extinct and can only be revived by obtaining its egg.

The egg itself is extremely rare, making the sniffer one of the most coveted mobs in Minecraft. Upon hatching, the sniffer will enter its baby stage, where it's small and helpless.

As it grows, it will develop the ability to sniff out lost seeds of ancient crops and flowers that once existed in the game but are now extinct.

The sniffer's main feature is its seed-sniffing ability, which is both adorable and useful. It roams around the grass, using its keen sense of smell to detect the scent of ancient seeds. Once it finds a seed, it drops down and digs it out, allowing players to obtain rare and valuable ancient crops and flowers that were previously unobtainable.

The sniffer is incredibly large, towering over the player at over 2 blocks tall.

But despite its size, it still manages to look cute, with its endearing sniffing animation and gentle demeanor. It's a peaceful creature that doesn't attack players, making it an ideal companion for those who enjoy exploring the vast world of Minecraft.

The sniffer is a slow creature, taking around 8 minutes to find just one seed. But its rarity and usefulness make it worth the wait. The seeds it uncovers are the only way to obtain ancient crops and flowers, which currently are just decorative and serve no other purpose. They can be used in crafting dyes though, but you probably shouldn't do that as they are pretty hard to come by.

How to Get Sniffer in Minecraft 1.20

The process of obtaining a sniffer in Minecraft may seem complicated, but it's actually quite simple if you know what to do.

As mentioned before, the sniffer is an ancient mob that lays eggs, and these eggs are the only way to obtain one.

But how can you get a sniffer egg without any sniffer or egg to begin with? That's where archaeology features come into play. First, grab a brush and head to the nearest warm ocean biome.

Look for warm ocean ruins and start clearing out the suspicious sand. You have a 6% chance of finding a sniffer egg here, so keep at it!

Once you have your sniffer egg, lay it down and wait for it to hatch. The egg is quite large, almost the size of a block in Minecraft, so make sure you have enough space for it.

It will take approximately 20 minutes for the egg to hatch, but you can cut this time in half to 10 minutes if you keep the egg on a moss block.

After the egg hatches, you will have a baby sniffer, which can't do much except look cute.

However, as it grows up, it will become bigger and more capable. The grown-up sniffer can sniff out ancient crops and flowers, which are the only way to obtain these rare items.

It will roam around your base, sniffing the grass and dropping down when it finds a seed. It will then dig up the seed and bring it back to you.

One important thing to note is that the sniffer doesn't spawn naturally in the game, and it doesn't give birth like other animals. This means that if you want more than one sniffer, you will need to breed them.

To do this, you will need to have two grown-up sniffers and some torchflower seeds, which are one of the flowers that can be obtained through the sniffer's seed-sniffing abilities.

Once you have these, simply feed the two sniffers the seeds and they will produce an egg, which can then be hatched.
